I only had to do steps 1-7. The bottom part, steps 1-13 weren't needed, but I thought I'd include them. I don't really kid about information. :)
I've tried using TS_Loader. That's the button that didn't work for me. What pass are you talking about for a donation?

You don't need the latest version software for a 2008.

You just need to get any version working and then you can upgrade after if you want to.

Try reading the 2 parts of this.

Hey, I'm coming in on the end of this. I've read many of the replies. I downloaded the Techstream software and bought a OBDII cable which actually came with a minidisc of the software. I can't seem to get in without a software key, though. Has anyone else had this problem? I searched online for solutions. Several gave me a workaround which failed to work. Opening without the software key button was not activated to click. Any help is appreciated, as I bought an 08 Rav4 with only one key.
Hi.. first of all search for several software versions and download them one of them has to work.. second you need to check your engine type (AZ) then in the software you need to choose this type and try it. If not working try to change the manufacturing country.. in my case it was japan all the others didn't work. BTW: The mini disc is useless !

It is working but only for open/close doors... not for adding keys to the ignition sensor. For the ignition sensor you have to use the software.
Now that I think about it, you may be right. I probably took the chip out of a damaged remote and used it to replace the chip in a new remote. Then used the manual method. It has been a while. Right now I am at the limit of keys (lost and broke a few along the way), so I am going to have gather all my keys, erase all of them with the Tech Stream and reprogram each one back in. I'm a little nervous about using the erase all feature. Anyone ever do it?

You must have the one OEM key with the OEM chip inside. You can erase all the others and reprogram them later with techstream. as far as i know the original key (chip) is not erasable.

Thanks for this info!!!
I actually saved a ton of money and it's not even hard.

Bought these:

1. eBay keys (2 for $20) from seller: remotez4less

2. Techstream cd and cable for $53
Brand: AutoGrills
VCI J2534 Cable Fit for Toyota TIS Techstream - Latest Version V16.00.017, Firmware V1.4.8, Scanner Adapter Diagnostic Cable Scan Tool, OBD2 Diangostic Cable, Support Win XP WIN7 WIN10 32/64bit

Then went to True Value and they cut the 2 keys for $6 total.

Total: $80 bucks and maybe 30-40 mins of your time including installing the software, doing the actual programming, and about 5 mins drive time to get em cut.

There's many other things you can do with techstream. Anyone with a Toyota should have it. It's a lite version of what TOYOTA DEALERS Use.

I need a little help with programming a used smart key on my 2007 RAV4 2.2D-CAT (European model). I was able to get TIS working and tried to register the used but identical smart key out of a salvaged car.

I followed the steps, placed the current key to the start button and got the beep. Then I've put the key outside the car and placed the one from the salvaged car to the start button and again got a beep. TIS told me to put the key onto the passengers seat but after 30 seconds it said that there was an error and the key could not be registered. I assume that this is due to to the fact that this keay is already registered to the dead car. But maybe I did something wrong, like keeping the doors closed or something else. I'm not sure as used key caused a beep but then nothing more. What do you think ?

Now there is the other way of doing the "Smart Code Reset" procedure, Unfortunately I have lost the second of my keys and I'm now worried that if I do a code reset that the car could not be used anymore if there would go something the wrong way. What I have learned form all the great informations here, I have to do the "smart code reset" to get the SEED and with this the pass code from the calculator sites. After this I should be able to register again the original and the used key, right ? What if registering of these keys fails ?

Thanks in advance
Rob

I got two keys from ebay for under $20 that was an easy decision.

I kept reading Amazon reviews about the "techstream" software having trojans and it not working well with W10. Plus I have W11 now...

The cable would cost me $55 after taxes, the local locksmith did one key for the same price and $30 for each additional key. The extra 30 dollars was worth not having to hassle and peace of mind that I don't get a virus. I spent $95 total. The diy method was more tempting back in the day with W7 and the cable was 30 bucks or so and I helped a small business.

There is no virus in Techstream. It creates a false positive with many anti-virus programs. I’ve used it for over 10 years on my laptops with no problems. Plus, Techstream allows you to do much more than just program keys. It’s an advanced diagnostic and testing tool. You can change parameters and enable options that normally only the dealer could do. You can read any code in any subsystem like ABS, air bags, and HVAC. You can even program and test TPMS sensors.

Are you saying a local locksmith was able to also program the engine immobilization? Or just cut the key?

Don't get me started on Ace, they're part of the reason I lost patience wanting to try tech stream if I had to jump through hoops getting them cut... they wanted $150 to cut one door key from a blank. I was like, "I just want the metal cut"... still $150. Years ago they cut my Ford key free.

I called our big local locksmith and they did two keys for the fraction of the cost of Ace. Ordered the transponder keys and took it to them.

It works on my Win11 laptop. The trojans are not in the Teachstream, but sometimes bundled in the "drivers" that are accompanying it. If you see an .exe in there, scan it.
