I just noticed that on my 2011 Rav 4 (just turned 9000 miles) that the "Maintenance Required" light doesn't turn off when all the other driver information lights go out after the car starts. It stays on and blinks 7 times before going out. The manual says that if it DOESN'T go out, see the dealer, but why would it start doing this? Should I be concerned?

Incidentally, I don't know about anyone else, but I think that the Rav 4 manual is an abortion. In my opinion, it's not written in any logical order which makes it hard to follow and find what you are looking for.

You need to reset your system. Check out the section in the manual that describes each "idiot" light on the dash. Basically, shut off the RAV with the odometer showing the "Trip A". Then, while holding down the reset button, turn the ignition to the "On" position. There will be 6-7 lines showing instead of the odometer numbers, and they will disappear one by one. Keep holding button down. Then all "0's" will be displayed, and finally it will show the mileage. Show over. Reset complete.

I usually look in the index rather than reading from page one until I find what I'm looking for.

I have Adobe Reader do an advanced search of the PDF files in a folder. It would be handier if the Owner's Manual was in a single file. Fortunately Adobe Reader keeps the most recently used list of folders so I don't have to re-browse to the folder.

"Trip A", reset button??? I don't have either of these.

dandel, I reset my TRIP A earlier today and my MAINT LIGHT yesterday.

On your dash on the SPEEDO you should see a black shaft sticking out. This shaft is the RESET DEVICE for both TRIP A and TRIP B odometers.

Once you locate this shaft refer to the manual for more info on the MAINT LIGHT reset procedure.

The Maintenance Required light will blink as you decided when you are within 500 miles of the service threshold. It will stay on when you have reached the mileage threshold. The mileage threshold is typically set to 5000 miles.

Maint reqd light on at 9500K

Just bought the SUV at 9K, got to 9500K and the "maint reqd" light comes on. I'm also looking for an answer. The light is solid not blinking. Is the answer to just reset the thing? Why would it come on in the first place?

That's means you should go get your car serviced, it usually comes on 500 miles before every 5k miles.

It's time to change the oil, and reset the light. It will come on again in 5000 miles.

I nominate this thread to the Noob Hall of Fame.

I noticed that these days, people prefer to ask and be told rather than open book and read.

Soon, Toyota will abort printing owner manuals and will put a flier in the glove box with only one line:

"ask on RAV4World.com"

Hey, it works for Apple! The iPhone comes with a tiny little pamphlet that tells you nothing.

The very first response should have been "RTFM"

as in Read The Freeking Manual.

Hi, all. Question. Does this procedure work even if the light is not flashing? I actually use a 5,000 mile threshhold but would like it to correspond to my odometer - basically, so that it goes off at every multiple of 5,000 miles. Just for kicks and giggles. :)

TIA,
