Good day all!! Thanks for having me. I have a 2012 rav4, 4cyl, 4wd base 97k miles. Apparently there was a shortage of coolant in the reservoir and the dealer noticed dried coolant around the water pump area. I have driven the car for over 400 miles since and I don't see a leak of any kind. Thoughts? Also, where can I find the torque specs for the water pump bolts? I will be performing all work on this car myself.

Thanks again!

My 2009 had the exact same issue you are describing. As it was explained to me by a forum member, at times coolant will leak from the weep hole located in the water pump housing and is nothing to be overly concerned about. I just kept an eye on the coolant level and in a week or so the problem disappeared. That was at least several years ago and there has been no loss of coolant since then. Don't worry about it and as the say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it).:smile

You did the right thing to wait and see if the coolant drops again. Too many people get panicky and are misguided when a Toyota mechanic say they need a water pump when it may not be true. The evidence seems to point to a leak but some coolant pressure release may occur sometimes making it appear so.

I bet the mechanic will say that to me too since I can see coolant residue under my engine. I have only topped it up once in 3 years not including the coolant change a month ago.
