Adding yet another 12 volt outlet

Some time ago, I created a thread on how to add another 12 volt outlet inside the center console (Adding another 12V outlet). since many cars already have the wiring installed from the factory.

You can also add another 12 volt outlet on the back of the center console below the rear passenger USB outlets because the wiring is also there as well. Just pop off the rear cover to the center console by using a trim tool on the upper corners and pulling to the rear. If you have that wire for the 12 volt outlet, it will be clipped to the back of the panel:

Adding another 12 volt outlet to the back of the panel is just like adding one inside the console: same part numbers. Just drill a 1" hole below the USB with a forstner bit, place a notch at the bottom for the key way on the cover, install the cover and the 12 volt socket, plug the wires in, reinstall the panel, and you are done.

At the same time, you can change the USB-a outlet for one with a USB-c : Usb-a usb-c

@FKHeath I'm planning to add this to my rav4. Do you know the fuse location?
There are two fuses for the 12 volt outlets in the RAV4. One is labeled "P/OUTLET No. 1" and the other is labeled "P/OUTLET No. 2"

No.1 powers the outlets on the dash and inside the center console. No. 2 powers the outlets on the back of the center console and in the cargo area.

Location may vary depending on model (ICE/hybrid/Prime). For my '21 hybrid, No. 1 is located in the fuse panel under the dash to the left of the steering column. Not sure where No. 2 is located, but most likely in the engine bay.

Since the sockets just plug into existing wiring harnesses, there is no need to do anything with the fuses.

hi there do you know what the part # for female end for that 12v wiring harness. I want to use that 12v power connector but not as a 12v cigarette light outlet.
I don't believe there is one. Toyota connector parts listings usually show male and female connectors together, but they do not for the 12 volt outlets.

Foolish question, flame away!
But is there a way to increase the output on these outlets?
Charging using the standard USB ports is slow as heck.
In the past, on a roadtrip, I actually just plugged in a wall charger to my 110 in the back (adventure model) and it was MUCH faster than the armrest outlets.

So is there a 'fix' for that?
There is no such thing as a dump (foolish) question, only dumb answers (which I have done on occasion).

No, you cannot increase the current outputs of the OEM ports. USB-A ports are limited in current output, by design. USB-C ports have a higher current, by design.

Toyota does make USB-C outlets (I think all the latest RAV4 have them), but I don't know if they have a higher current output. Some of the older USB-c outlets are plug and play into the RAV4. They even have lighted ones, such as this one I put inside my center console:

There is another thread on the forum that gives the part numbers for the various USB ports you can swap into the RAV4.

There are a number of ways to solve the current problem (slow charging of smart phones):
1. Get a 12 volt adapter with a USB-A QC "fast charge". They have a 3.0 amp output such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08N4WKJMT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 The 3.0 amp output is colored orange.
2. I got a replacement tray under the dash that adds a USB-A "fast charge" 3.0, a USB-C, and a voltmeter: Amazon.com. It also has a wireless charge base for smart phones.
3. Like #1, but with USB-C outlets: Amazon.com

Curious, what was the plug originally intended for? Perhaps it was for a feature in the Limited model?
Which plug?

Lower trim levels, such as the LE came with 12 volt outlets in the console and not USB outlets. But the wiring and connector is there for a USB outlet.

Higher trims levels, such as my XLE Premium came with USB outlets in the console, but the wiring and connectors are there for 12 volt outlets. You can see the 12 volt connector plugged into the back of the cup holder in the first photo of this thread.

Actually behind the pop out cover it doesnt even have a dummy housing to hold any extra connector.
The holder for the interior center console 12 volt outlet may be on the back of the center console cup holder, not on the pop off cover.

Edit: my error. The connector holder on the back of the cup holder is for the ambient light connector, not the 12 volt outlet.

Hmm look like it been changed. My wiring harness only have two connector the usb and ambient light (blue tape). No 12v connector anywhere, in your other post picture i think i see all 3 wiring connector, USB, 12v and ambient (which look like a 12v male but smaller).

Yes, the ambient light connector is (much) smaller than the the connector for the 12 volt outlets. If you had a connector for the 12 volt outlet, it should be in the hole to the left in your last picture. Not all cars come with the 12 volt wiring installed; mine did.
