Aftermarket remote start for RAV4 hybrid, possible stupid question.

I have a new 2021 rav4 hybrid XLE that apparently doesn’t have the factory remote start. I would love to add it and wouldn’t even mind to do it myself it there is a clear video tutorial.

I don’t care the much about starting it from an app unless I can’t start it from the factory smart key.

Anyone know if this is possible? Any recommendations for a remote start?

If you’re in the USA, they pretty much all ship with remote start. (Especially an XLE Hybrid)

Press lock on the remote three times and on the third time hold the button down.

Alternatively, you can buy a long range remote, search google for options.

No, they don't. You must have the upgraded 8" radio, not the standard 7" system to have the factory remote start.

I had an auto place install an Arcticstart FMX 2- way remote. It works using a small fob, with no app to call up. It worked great all winter. Total cost was around $400 installed. For that money, in no way would I attempt installing it on my own. Besides, the auto shop backs up their work with warranties. Also, I wasn't sure if doing it myself might void some part of the Toyota Warranty down the line of something were to go wrong

Thank you all so much for your help.
There are a few sites that claim you can use your OEM key. Are these real?

Problem with those systems is the range is only as far as you OEM remote. Aftermarket systems can go much farther and the 2 way systems let you know if the car has started.

BTW. They can also program your oem remote so you can have both.

I got mine installed a few years ago at BEST BUY got $250. They have these deals every year around OCT- DEC Timeframe.

They just had it a few days ago. You can check out the system they use

Here is one owner with 2020 XLEh with 7" radio. I was so excited that I might have remote start, I could not wait until I pick it up.
Imagine my disapointment.
No matter, have a local shop I used before for my wife's Corolla, and my other cars. Even got a discount coupon in the email. 1 hour and 350$ later I am a happy camper.

Congrats on obtaining subscription-free remote start. Does your system use the factory remotes or a secondary remote? I’m looking for a system with a two-way (tells you that the engine is started) remote and better range than the factory remotes.

P.S. Take photos of your receipts. I personally feel as if the inclusion of remote start on our vehicles was false advertising and we should probably start complaining to Toyota. We shouldn’t have to be spending several hundred dollars to get the functionality that was advertised on these cars, especially after expending $25-40K. If someone has the time, energy, and retainer funding....class action...

My receipt does not list remote start. I was excited because of my research here that implied it may have it.

As for my RS, my setup uses OEM remote and it is good enough for me, but my install shop had a few options available , including two way capable remotes and even subscription based phone app kind.
Infact there were options to have both an OEM remote and a long range remote at the same time.

Installed the following on my RAV4 in order to give almost 1mile range for remote start/stop without having to cut a single wire on my 2019 RAV4 (100% plug & play)...takes about an hour including flashing the evo-all with latest firmware required (EVO-ALL module must have manufactured date > 2019)

According to the Fortin documentation for this vehicle, when using the T harness for the RAV4, you have to splice one wire to the hybrid ECU.

In the past when I installed Fortin you can configure it to use the factory remote. The Fortin documentation says that the factory remotes stay active when remote started. (Other car manufacturers like VW disable the factory remotes when the car is started, which is significant because you can’t unlock the car without a third party remote for VW - Toyota has no such limitation.)

I decided to go with the remote connect for my 2019 adventure rav4. Here's why I did it. Intsalling the viper smartstart requires subcrption fee to take advantage of all the "connected services" on top of installation which is around $350. The chepeast plan according to website was $6/mo. Toyota remote connect is free for a year, then 80/yr or 8/mo no obligations. so if you divide 350/80 = 4.3 years plus the free year =5.3 years of connection, and you get all the smart phone services such as fuel levels, tire pressure monitor, windows open/closed notification, doors open/closed etc. to do the same with Viper cheap plan, 5.83*60 mos - 349.80 +350 install = 700. Toyota remote connect at 80 for 4 years is $320 plus free year. it made sense to me since i love the smart phone app. and ill probably trade after 5 years anyway.

If you want just a fob remote start with no phone connectivity then yeah go aftermarket. but even then you can make the math work out especially if you only remote start during just cold or hot months.

Is there a remote start system that won’t shut off when you open the door. I saw a viper system install in which the factory keyless entry was integrated but that also meant when opening the door, the remote start shut off. I get it’s a safety thing, but other cars I’ve had remote start one shuts off when I press the brakes, not when I open the door.

I have the XLE that's loaded with the exception of the 8" JBL stereo. My dealer said they do it all the time---they told me it would be $590---No thanks.
I have a heated seat and steering wheel to keep me happy for now.

But to answer your question, mine would do it. I'm located in Eastern PA
