Just received our new Rav4 Prime SE on Friday. Drove it around all yesterday afternoon and it was awesome to be driving in EV mode! I did realize upon parking in our garage however that there appears to be no front sensors for parking, etc., which I did not realize. Am I missing something or is that accurate?

If so, are there any after-market solutions someone might recommend, or should I simply do the old tennis ball hanging from the ceiling trick? Appreciate the feedback.

Far as I know only the premium XSE has parking sensors. I’m not familiar with any aftermarket solutions.

You can always add after market front parking sensors but they are not as convenient as the stock ones, which are integrated and connected to ECU with the ability to turn on/off automatically.

Has anyone found an aftermarket solution to this? I really miss having front parking sensors. I shouldn’t have assumed that a car with this much technology would automatically have them.

If the hard plastic hitting the glass doesn’t get your attention the tire stop should after that the freezer in the garage is the last defense before the laundry room on the other side 😁

On a serious note I placed the hard plastic ball from the ceiling so the back hatch clears the garage door when open.

This thinking 🧐 maximizes room in front of the Rav 4 plus if you have a garage door that automatically closes after a set time and you forgot to close the back hatch after taking in groceries your garage door will not whack the open hatch.

It's one of the glaring deficiencies in the SE Prime; front and rear parking sensors should be standard nowadays in all vehicles, just as rear-view cameras are when the car is in reverse. In fact, if I had to choose between the rear-view camera and front/rear parking sensors, I'd choose the latter every time. The loud noise when the car is in reverse is also unnecessary when you have a working rear camera; somebody at Toyota is not thinking this through...

Thank you. I’m mostly concerned about the front of the car. While parking, I have the hardest time judging the distance of my front bumper to a car or object in front of me. It always feels like I’m much closer that I actually am. Would installing a camera on the grill and then using one of the unused switches to manually turn it on while parking work? I’d have a mechanic do the installation.
If that idea is no good, sensors that beep would be fine but I read that at least some types can’t be installed in cars that have the dynamic radar cruise control.

After parking the car as close as you want in front of you, hang a tennis ball from the ceiling of the garage so that it just touches the windshield. Next time you pull into the garage, you'll know when to stop -- when the ball touches the windshield. Works perfectly every time (as long as you don't back in). No mechanic needed for installation. Good luck.

FWIW, I was very struck by how difficult it was to sense how close I was to something in front of me--another car in a parking lot, the garage walls, etc. But over a fairly short time I got much better at it. Plus, rarely in parking places is it so critical to get close to other cars in front of you. In fact my tact is to stay as far away from other cars in parking lots as best I can! Congrats on your new car it's a fabulous ride, but has some quirks to learn about which visiting here will get you up to speed on.

Glad I read this post. I wasn't aware that the XSE also didn't have parking sensors unless Premium Package was included. Our XSE is scheduled to arrive in the next week and it doesn’t have the premium package. Dealer doesn’t have any Prime allocation with Premium package either. Wife says she needs parking sensors as she’s had them for the past 11 years on her Odyssey. Dealer said that customers haven’t been happy with the aftermarket sensor systems. At this point, I’m not sure what to do.

Anyone regret not having parking sensors on their Prime after having them on their prior vehicle?
