Hello everyone. I used the search function but I couldn't find anything related. Last night I was looking to the pedals area to see from where the interior blue light comes and I noticed next to it a small button which apparently does nothing, I pressed it twice and could not figure what it does. Does anyone know what does this button ?

Is this the new location for the TPMS reset button ? I do not have this feature on my car and I find this to be an awkward place to put this reset button.

I believe that is the TPMS reset this is my 2015 instructions

Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified cold tire inflation
pressure level. (ď‚®P. 669)
Make sure to adjust the tire pressure to the specified cold tire inflation
pressure level. The tire pressure warning system will operate
based on this pressure level.
Turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (vehicles without a
smart key system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with a smart
key system).
Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch
until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly 3 times.
Vehicles without a smart key system: Wait for a few minutes with
the engine switch in the “ON” position and then turn the engine
switch to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position.
Vehicles with a smart key system: Wait for a few minutes with the
engine switch in IGNITION ON mode and then turn the engine
switch off.

Since I do not have TPMS and since I thought the reset for this this system must be somewhere handy, not hidden, I was intrigued about this button, I didn't complain about it. I must admit that I've skipped this chapter from the user manual for the same reason, because I knew I don't have the system. Now I know the meaning of that icon. Thank you.

There's no mention of TPMS requirement for Canada.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire-pressure_monitoring_system

The Firestone recall in the late 1990s (which was linked to more than 100 deaths from rollovers following tire tread-separation), pushed the United States Congress to legislate the TREAD Act. The Act mandated the use of a suitable TPMS technology in all light motor vehicles (under 10,000 pounds), to help alert drivers of under-inflation events. This act affects all light motor vehicles sold after September 1, 2007. Phase-in started in October 2005 at 20%, and reached 100% for models produced after September 2007. In the United States, as of 2008 and the European Union, as of November 1, 2012, all new passenger car models (M1) released must be equipped with a TPMS. From November 1, 2014, all new passenger cars sold in the European Union must be equipped with a TPMS. For N1 vehicles, TPMS are not mandatory, but if a TPMS is fitted, it must comply with the regulation.

On July 13, 2010, the South Korean Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced a pending partial-revision to the Korea Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (KMVSS), specifying that "TPMS shall be installed to passenger vehicles and vehicles of GVW 3.5 tons or less, ... [effective] on January 1, 2013 for new models and on June 30, 2014 for existing models".[2] Japan is expected to adopt European Union legislation approximately one year after European Union implementation. Further countries to make TPMS mandatory include Russia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Israel, Malaysia and Turkey.[3]

After the TREAD Act was passed, many companies responded to the market opportunity by releasing TPMS products using battery-powered radio transmitter wheel modules.

Sound strange ? It's not true. The car is not allowed to sell without TPMS installed.

TPMS has been mandatory since November 1st 2014 in EU countries.
It's not optional in your car. It is mandatory. All RAVH sold in EU have it installed. If you use it is another question. You will need the weel sensors, but the TPMS system is installed in the car.

Here's an official EU page on TPMS and vehicle classification, the Rav4 is class M1. If the Rav4 has the TPMS reset button, it has the TPMS, it doesn't make sense that it would be installed without the system. When you turn the ignition on (turn vehicle on without your foot on the brake pedal) so the instrument panel icons stay on, the TPMS icon should be on, it normally goes off just after the vehicle starts if there's no problem, icon looks like a U with an ! inside, see the Goodyear.eu link for a pic.

The EU mandate requires M1 class vehicles to be equipped with TPMS, it doesn't appear to require it to be used as it does in the US and apparently it can be disabled with Techstream, someone that uses an older version of Techstream(Reddit article is 2yrs old) and is interested in disabling TPMS for winter wheel use should check it out.

"Vehicles in categories M1 shall be equipped with an accurate Tyre Pressure Monitoring System capable of giving, when necessary, an in-car warning to the driver when a loss of pressure occurs in any tyre, which is in the interests of optimum fuel consumption and road safety. Appropriate limits in the technical specifications shall be set to achieve this, which shall furthermore allow for a technology-neutral and cost-effective approach in the development of accurate Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems."
