Mud guard problem: Contact with muffler.

I bought two pairs of mudguards for 2016 rav4 hybrid.
It all bolts on perfectly except the right rear mudguard.
It is touching the rear muffler where there's a bulge in the piping.
Do the mufflers get hot enough to melt the mudguard?

I'm curious if I should cut around the muffler so there's no contact.
Anyone know if I should be concerned?

My Toyota factory rear mud guard does not contact the exhaust system. I suggest you cut some of the guard to gain more clearance. Not a good idea to have direct contact with the hot exhaust system.

Great more work...
I'll just remove the rear right mudguard and find an exacto knife to cut a semi circle.
Will be driving w/o that mudguard until I can find a good exacto knife.

My factory mud guard has a special cut (around the muffler) on that side so it looks like you did the right thing cutting it.

I looked at my factory mud guard on that side where the muffler is located and noticed there is a special cut around that area like what you did. Never noticed the rear side has one cut differently.
