I have a '20 XLE Hybrid and the options were factory (no mats), carpet mats, OR rubber all weather mats. The carpet and rubber mats are add-on items.

 

All mats, whether carpet or all weather, are optional accessories. There are no mats that are standard. You may be confuse because carpet flooring, not mats, is standard.

Thus, the port did not "keep" the carpet mats because there is nothing to keep. If you want carpet mats in addition to your all weather mats, you will have to buy them separately; but you can only have one set installed at a time.

 

Ha I was not aware of that. I purchased several vehicles new and have assumed the carpet mats are standard. I mean how can they not be? However from the same dealership I purchased another vehicle before with the rubber mats and it did came with the carpet mats neatly packed in the trunk so I just assumed that was the standard practice.

Today I learned I guess.

 

If you live near the eastern Iowa area and want carpet mats, let me know. You can have mine for free since they are just taking up space right now. They have been rolled up in a closet since the day I got the RAV as I bought the all-weather that day and swapped them out.

 

Floor mats have been a upsell for along time (not just Toyota). I always say (after final price) add in the me floor mats, wheel locks, and what ever accessories you kinda want to close the deal.
