Power liftgate opens but won't close

I know others have had this problem, power liftgate opens ok but Double beeps and won't close.
2023 XSE with 38k miles.
I have Scoured the Web, found no working solution.
I tried doing a factory recalibration and disconnecting the battery and a number of other things, but no joy.
This just happened yesterday, but this morning It worked 2 or 3 times but now it's doing the same thing.
I use the car primarily for Uber and lyft, so it gets used quite often during the day.
I have an appointment with the dealer for a $240 diagnostic, but would like to find a solution.
The hinges look Perfect. No cracks, loose nuts, or anything. I don't see any issues there.
The odd thing is, It went through a car wash last night and started working today just like Another member had mentioned, but the fix was only temporary as I mentioned.
With as many customers exhibiting similar problems, I would think Toyota would Issue a service bulletin.

If anyone can shed some new light on this issue I'd much appreciate it.

What you're describing sounds like something is triggering the jam protection. Try inspecting the weather stripping and rear cargo mat to make sure nothing is putting force on the door attempting to close. Also inspect the two black covers in the door jamb that cover the bolts that allow you to remove the tail lights.

Also check above where the rubber grommet conduits run to make sure nothing is stuck in the drainage channel above the hatch door. (With the dopr open.)

What am I looking for here?

Odd thing is when the door is open there is nothing touching the liftgate, the door jam is all clean. Looks like new.

I'll check what you suggested, obviously seems like something is triggering some sensor somewhere.

My issue was with it opening and was intermittent until it decided to completely stop working.

My car is out of warranty and it pissed me off that this failed. The dealer wanted a diagnostic fee as well. I asked how much is a replacement strut if it’s the issue and it was $1,000 each. Yeah, no thanks.

Spent the same amount of the diagnostic fee and converted mine to manual. Yeah I get to open and close my lift gate like a peasant but the wad of cash in my pocket makes up for it :)

Just in case it's the struts starting being more resistant to movement (as it was in my case) if you guys initialize closing just by pushing a button (inside the car, key fob or on the gate itself) I would suggest trying to initialize closing by pulling down on the gate and floor the movement for a second. Just my two cents.

Just curious, do you take it through a carwash with downdraft air dry?
Ever since I quit taking mine through same it's been working flawlessly.
Thing it, the PBD has some gremlins and toyota hasn't figured it out.
My brother in-law has a 2022 LE HB and his door won't even open, not even manually; the PBD won't unlock.
Good luck with your, perhaps it will self heal like mine did.:p:cool:

Well my theory of the touchless carwash being the culprit is confirmed. I went through one the other day and paused too long when the Turbo fans where at the rear of the car, next day hatch wouldn't close.
It worked just fine after I exited the carwash because I opened it and wiped down the edges.
So this morning It started working again, just like before.
I've been washing the car in my garage to save money, it's winter here in Alaska, but decided to purchase the monthly wash.
Wish I knew what area is being effected by moisture intrusion, just weird!
