I was wondering if anyone has any idea how difficult of a job it is to replace the A/C condenser cooling fan? I recently had to have the radiator replaced and the dealer told me they had to discharge, evacuate and recharge the A/C system due to needing the condenser removed to gain access to the radiator. Now the condenser fan is not spinning when the air is on unless I open the hood and manually spin the fan blades to get them moving. Dealer quoted me over 250.00 for just the motor but I was able to find the whole fan assembly online for 114.99. I can see there are three total bolts holding the fan in place (one at the top, two at the bottom) but I can't tell if it should come out below the vehicle or above through the engine bay and if it can be done without having to remove the radiator since that includes removing the condenser. Any help is appreciated!! :smile

I was able to finally figure out how to remove and replace the assembly after 4 hours of trial and error....but, unfortunately, of no help from this forum. Despite posting in two different sections. Myself and one other guy have no responses at all, but I see others have engaged little convos. Apparently in order to get some helpful advice when in a pinch, you must be a part of the "in crowd," which is a bit disappointing.

That's not true, there is no "in crowd" here. It's simply something that hasn't come up much in the forums. Question? Why did you describe it as an A/C condenser fan? Most here would refer to it as a radiator fan. I replaced one of those on a Dodge Caravan, but didn't reply because I didn't think it would help you much. In that case, the electric fan was mounted behind the radiator opposite from the condenser.

Well, it is listed as an A/C Condenser fan. There are two fans mounted behind the radiator, one mounted on the passenger side (closer to the drive belts) with multiple fan blades and a metal shroud and the other mounted on the driver's side with four fan blades in a plastic shroud. The driver's side one is referred to as the "Engine Cooling Fan" and the passenger's side one is referred to as the "A/C Condenser Fan", per the my local service department and after market auto supply stores. The engine cooling fan is operating as normal, but the other fan was not coming on when the compressor cycles on. I was told it was something about some brushes going out...I'm not savvy on electrical motors so I have no clue what that means. Either way, I finally figured out how to remove it and get the new one in. All is well now. The engine cooling fan will be much easier if that motor should fail.

also been through this puzzle on how to remove both fans. I only need to replace the engine cooling fan but since I also have a spare A/C cooling fan I decided to replaced it as well to save time & effort in the future:laugh. It literally took me morning 'til night to finish the job. All I remember is I loosen the 2 Radiator top clamp & also loosen the condenser mounting screws to have some space to pull-out both fans. But this does not easily solved how to pull-out the fans. You still have to do some twisting of the fans housing to eventually pull it out. I also remember removing the radiator coolant reservoir to have more working space. Hope this bit of information helps a lot. :wink

Sorry you had troubles getting responses here, and that it took you four hours of trial and error to replace your fan. I have a 2001 Rav4, and just replaced my A/C Condenser Cooling fan. My procedure: Remove grill and front trim above bumper. Remove top radiator support cowling, remove hood latch mechanism, do not disconnect cable, just set aside out of the way. Locate and disconnect condenser fan wiring connector on drivers side of engine cooling fan shroud, and remove wiring from engine cooling fan shroud clips. Remove 3 mounting 10mm bolts, 2 at the top and 1 at bottom of condenser fan assembly. Note: bottom mounting bolt is accessed from under the vehicle and by removing 4 screws holding the plastic engine guard. Carefully move fan back and away slightly from radiator, lifting up and out. Rotate slightly clockwise to clear passenger side headlight housing. Installation is in reverse order. The process took approximately 30-40 minutes.
