For the creative thinker there are a variety of ways to protect your vehicle. It is sad that the most effective are probably illegal. For example how about a claymore mine in the door triggered by the potential thief not having a device that emits a particular frequency (keyless entry) or you could hide a grenade under the dash with a string tied to the pin and gas pedal (just don't forget when you get in) . Okay well that may be a bit extreme. My question would be are these being loaded on a flatbed or are they being 'hot wired'. If the answer is hot wired then really wouldn't it be practical and simple to wire in a kill switch? With cars being so dependent on computer control systems it wouldn't necessarily have to be a starter kill. For example there is most likely a sensor for oil pressure and if there is no oil pressure then your engine will not run.

I don't think that sensing loss of oil pressure will kill the engine. Not powering the fuel pump will.

Everything a pro needs to do to get your ride, he does it in seconds. He doesn't have to figurs things out, and definitely has ALL the tools he needs to do it FAST!
A thief that's a member of a chop shop?? Tow trucks. Nice show on cable a few years ago. If he wants it, its his.
Good luck...

I just called the Knight Foundation and they said I can get the base KITT computer for $2.2M. The base KITT comes with:
1) ECU protected from EMP
2) Automatic Controls for all aspect of the current vehicle
3) Original KITT voice and free download of latest firmware and updates.

All other compnents are extra:
Turbo Boost
self inflating tires
self repair nanobots
form changing nanobots
etc.

Live and work in better neighborhoods. I don't think that the RAV is that easy to steal. The Club or a steering wheel lock is probably the best and easiest add-on deterent. Avoid Canada and Canadian made RAVs?? Did I say that?
I live on planet earth and my 2009 sport with leather etc got stolen Where in the galaxy did you say you live??
Mars

here are the directions: in 1.3 light year make left turn and go straight ahead until you'll see Proxima Centauri on your rught. (light year 9.4605284 Ă— 1015 meters)

From someone who has personally experienced having a car stolen I have learned one thing, if they want it bad enough NOTHING is going to stop them from taking it.
so I see only one solution  make your rav4 so ugly, stinking (keep the skunk always in the car) and garishly that nobody would want it...and even if they do it will be so easy to spot it that you'll get it back soon...

under any circumstances make your rav4 look like this:

I kind of like a hidden kill switch. The pro thieves come with all the standard theft tools to steal a particular setup; immobilizer defeater, ignition switch keys, slim jim, etc., but with a hidden switch, they might give up quickly before finding the switch.

Most pros want to get the vehicle started and out of the area as quick as possible. Even the club slows them down a little although a 21 volt battery operated cutoff tool can slice the steering wheel in a few seconds (it is just a little obvious).

I think a hidden switch that breaks the fuel pump circuit or the starter relay is a pretty good idea.

After having my previous car unsuccessfully broken in to (the hood pin set off my back up siren) I thought of many ways to get them bastards. I read one article (too bad I can't find it anymore) where an owner electrified the door handles of the car like a stun gun. I thought of putting the stun gun into the driver's seat cushion with either a hidden or RF kill switch. Wouldn't it be funny to return to your car with a punk thief possibly knocked out in your car  ? Then you could beat their a$$ more.

I don't know how you could possibly avoid it. I'm certain that insurance companies are not that dumb anymore to think that someone can't steal your car if you have an immobilizer.

You could waste all your time thinking about the 'what if's'. I've given up worrying about it and just enjoy it for what it is - a nice car. It won't be the last one I own, and if something happens, I can always get it fixed or replaced.

I have a tracking & trace system ... so if it gets stolen, I can see where it is, I can remotely turn off the fuel pump or prevent it from being started. Great system. At the same time I can always track it on line while it is not stolen and see where my wife is taking it.
