[SOLVED] Interior button illimination LEDs not working

Hello all,

I recently realized that the illumination LEDs of buttons in the central console do not work. What I mean with "illumination" is that faint light you see on some of the buttons when you turn the headlights on. I went through the maintenance manuals and troubleshoots. However, all of the troubleshooting aim to find out if the actual button LED is defective or not. Mine seems like more systemic.

I tried to find a fuse that would feed the ILLUM signal but could not find any. I will also check if there is a relay somewhere that switches the ILLUM on/off. However, I would like to ask you guys first if you have any experience with a similar problem and can guide me towards the right path.

Model: 2008
Trim: Base
Engine: V6

LEDs that do not turn on with the headlight that I can see:
Climate control knobs, hazard light button, lock button, central console light.

Thank you.

The bulbs for the HVAC are not LEDs for the Base model (and Sport). First make sure the brightness lighting control is turn to maximum. I suspect the fuse could be blown from an accessory that is plugged in somewhere. Check the fuses with a voltmeter with headlights ON and the car running.

[SOLVED]

After revisiting to troubleshoot the problem I was able to solve it.

TLDR
Replaced the 7.5A PANEL fuse in the interior fuse box.

Symptom:
All central console buttons with internal night time illumination fail to illuminate.

Troubleshoot:
The central console illumination part of the wiring diagram shows the source of the ILLUM signal:

Following the 3B junction box connection we find the source relay and fuse:

Fix:
  1. Find the interior fuse box. Helpful video here.
  2. The fuse box cover has the layout of the fuses:
  3. Find fuse 17 (7.5A PANEL) and check it. If it is blown replace it.
  4. Test the illumination of the buttons.
That's it. I hope this helps someone with a similar problem.
