I bought a 2023 RAV4 in November of 2022 and last week the multimedia screen stopped working. I was driving and the screen rebooted 3 times in 5 minutes and then the by the 4th time it turned off I was unable to turn it on. When the car is on reverse the monitor shows the backup camera and as soon as I put it in drive the screen goes black. At the same time the USB outlet doesn’t charge the phone as well. I sent the car to the dealership today and they did a reset and the screen started working, the dealer said that there is no guarantee the fix will last as a lot of people are reporting the same issue for this model and Toyota is working on a permanent software update. I started driving and the same happened, the screens rebooted 3 times and the 4th time it turned off, it didn’t turn on again. Is someone else having the same issues? Any updates from Toyota on when will they have a permanent software update for this issue? My dealer didn’t have an answer on this and they said it could take weeks to a year until Toyota comes with a software update. It is annoying driving a brand new car and the screen to not work, meaning no GPS, radio etc.

My 2023 rav4 xle awd has the exact same issues, and toyota is not doing anything. They said they ordered the new screen and it could take from months upto a year. I the mean time they wouldn't give me anything else to drive. I wish I could cancel my lease and get something else that works. I strongly recommend people not to go for toyota. They are not reliable at all as they use to be back in the days.

I have a 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE I got in December 2022. Having the same issue where the screen turns off and on roughly every 5 seconds and sometimes says “your session expired”. It’s frustrating given that it’s a new car. Toyota believes it needs to update the system, but I’m not so sure now after reading many comments.

I just tried unplugging the battery ( not hybrid battery, the 12V) for 15min. its located back right of trunk.

After hooking back up, it seems to have resolved the issue. Hopefully permanently.
I will post any updates.
We were on a road trip and the same thing was happening to us in our 2023 RAV4 LE. Screen kept rebooting and every time, it kicked the usb power on and off too.

We tried a quick unplug of the battery and it’s seems to have reset it. Good ‘ol on/off trick. It asks for our PIN, which we can’t remember but at least it’s functional and not rebooting every 20 seconds. It’s been working for 8 hours now and made it home without issues yet.

Have the same issue. Disconnected the battery a couple weeks ago and worked fine for two weeks and the issue started again with the screen going blank after rebooting three times. Attempted all the possible fixes that I saw online and none of them worked. Off to the dealership I go tomorrow. Not happy at all.

Based on past history with infotainment problems, I highly doubt that a new screen will fix your problem. Look for a software update and TSB in the coming months as more 23' owners complain to their respective dealerships. Same crap is occurring on the Tundra and Corolla forums with the 23's.

Same happening to me! I have Hybrid SE purchased at the end of 2022. in my case, I have got 2 eposides of continuus rebooting loop. Both episodes resolved themselves after 30 minutes or so of reboots. The second episode started immediately after picking up the car parked in the sun. Maybe overheating? In fact, I noted that turning the AC on, the reboots were occurring between intervals contantly increasing (e.g. after 10 seconds, 20, 30, 40, 1 minute, 2 minutes, then no longer rebooting). So the AC did some sort of "cool down". Some power chip overheating?

Today I went to the dealership but since the problem was not happening they said that nothing could be done for the moment. It seems that there is no recall or bulletin or acknowledgment on the issue. Reading here and on reddit, it seems to me that it is becoming quite common on the newer 2023 hybrids and not only my own isolate case.

Same problem. 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XSE purchased from South Dade Toyota. This is the second time I'm taking it in for this problem, and I got the "software update" excuse the first time. The problem was intermittent, gradually growing worse until the multimedia screen doesn't work at all now. With random occurrences and static on the screen it sure looks like a faulty data cable, but I'm just an EE what do I know? 🤷‍♂️

I purchased my 2023 Rav4 Limited and took delivery 12/19/22. In April 2023, the multimedia kept rebooting. Took it to the dealership and technician started a "reboot" process that I completed over a couple of weeks. Worked great for two months. Now, 6/8/23, the multimedia is continuously rebooting again. This happens even if my cell phone is turned off. Have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow. From the previous posts I fear a solution will not be forthcoming. We were planning a road trip, but this issue is certainly a major distraction. I have owned four Toyotas, but their quality has dramatically declined. Maybe time to look at other car brands. Moreover, due to the chip shortage, so they say, I haven't even received my second key fob. What's happened to the quality of Toyota? Sad.

Off topic but since you mentioned it, IMO the chip shortage is over and now they are just making excuses. They already have our money so there is no motivation or incentive to give you the second key that always comes standard with any new car.

Walk into any dealership, pay them between $500 and $800, and see how fast they produce a key for you.

You might want to open an incident report with Toyota yourself. When I was considering buying a Subaru Outback I noticed what seemed like a good number of customers on their forum complaining of systems rebooting constantly or unexpectedly playing audio at max volume, or just basic instability with the newly redesigned infotainment system. The redesign of that Outback including new large infotainment screen was back in 2020 and Subaru issued several software and firmware updates that corrected some problems for some users but not all. Subaru was extremely slow at addressing these and maybe the pandemic had something to do with it but it created an awful lot of anxiety for a subset of owners. Seems that these problems only ever affect a smaller percentage of users but even if it's say 10%, based on number of sales it would still be a significant number. I'm hoping this does not turn out to be similar here for the new Ravs.

I have a 2019 rav4 limited - 50,000km. After 3 weeks vacation, it was parked in the garage.

I started my car. The display touch screen did not work. I think I have the same issue.

Someone told me to try this suggestion which is worked for my screen:

“Apply the parking brake. Shift the gear selector to Reverse. Leave the vehicle in Reverse for a minimum of five minutes. After the five minutes have elapsed, shift the gear selector back to Park. The radio should now boot up normally. (engine not running, but vehicle on - press start button twice without foot on brake).”

Please try and see how work your car.

Thank you, Redtran, this WORKED!! Though I was confused as to how I could shift the RAV4 from Park into Reverse without the vehicle being started because it wouldn't. So I sort of improvised based on your general instructions. Here is what I did:
1.) started the vehicle
2.) Put the shifting stick into Reverse
3.) Without touching the brake pedal, I turned the vehicle's engine off by pressing the Start button
4.) I quickly realized I needed to engage the Parking brake which is right next to the shifting stick because I was on an incline and started to roll back
5.) Everything was dinging and ringing but I'm married, I know how to tune such things out. I just let it ring and ding for 5 minutes and 30 seconds. (During this time the RAV4 was 'singing'...that high pitched sound it makes when going in reverse. So I guess it was dinging and ringing and singing.)
6.) I then simply slid the shifting stick back into Park
7.) The video display unit booted up and worked
8.) At some point after shifting back into Park I may have started the engine, just can't remember exactly when I did that. But the general instructions do work. Thank you so much!!

I have a 2023 XLE that I took delivery on at the end of April. It's now the beginning of July and have about 1200 miles on it. The rebooting started happening yesterday. Today I drove it about 10 miles away and it worked fine, but on the drive home it started doing it again. It reached the point that it was off for a minute, then it would come on and then quickly turn off. Sometimes it would ask for a PIN. Once I tried to type a PIN in, but it shut off before I could type 3 or 4 numbers.

Of course, this is happening just before a busy weekend and then I'm going out of town for a week, so I really don't have time to get it to the dealership. I don't think they will be able to fix this, but at least I will document that I have this problem.

This is pretty damn frustrating. This car replaced my 2001 Rav4, which had two minor software glitches early on (revs would surge when cold, and a false error code) which were fixed by a TSB, but has otherwise been bulletproof for over 21 years. I was pretty happy to get my new Rav4 with the cool multifunction screen, but this is a major disappointment. When I bought my new Rav4, I thought about buying another brand, but decided to stick with Toyota. I've bought about 10 Toyotas over my life (starting with a pickup in 1986) for me and my family, and they have been very reliable from day one. I also paid a premium for a Toyota. Their quality is slipping!

I took mine to the dealer today. They just called and said they installed a software update and it's working now. I was surprised that an update was available. I also thought that we could update the software through our phone - I've done that for other Toyotas I've owned.
