I apologize if this has been covered, I have searched the forum but haven't found an answer (here or anywhere else).

On October 2nd I replaced the tires on my '13 RAV4 XLE. Same size, etc etc. All the sensors are active and transmitting (I literally just had them checked again an hour ago), they have been checked by 3 different places, and they all see the same thing. However, I cannot get the TPMS light to go off. When we try to reset the "registration" of the sensors it is being blocked by DTC code C2126...the code that says they're not linking (duh...I know that)! I've taken it to 2 different mechanics (on top of the 3 tire places) who have cleared the DTC codes and tried to resync, but the DTC code pops back up immediately (not the delay that the TPMS manuals say is supposed to happen). I'm at my wits end!

This happened once before when I changed my breaks, but that time I had the breaks changed by Toyota and so they went in and worked their magic, which included new sensors, for free (not admitting that anything was wrong of course, they claimed they didn't know what happened). This time, they're quoting me a min of $130 just to run the diagnostic to find out what I already know. I can only imagine how much their "fix" to this would cost (I'm guessing 5 new sensors at least, and maybe even a shiny new computer). UGH!!!!!! Any ideas on next steps would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wendy

The 2013 has a donut spare, so no pressure sensor there, but I did check for it (and the pressure) just in case. I've also been driving it since Oct 2nd and it hasn't turned off (even with help of cleaning out codes, resending sensor ID's, etc).

I went to yet another place today and a new code popped up about a misfiring sensor on my left rear tire. That's the first time that code has come up. I'm taking it back tomorrow and we're going to play around with it a bit. Everyone is as fascinated as I am about figuring it out because all of the sensors read fine when not linked through the car's system, the TPMS computer just seems to have an issue with them. Nevermind that I'm a soccer mom who can now deliver TPMS DTC code definitions off the top of her head...

Thanks for the replies! I'll make sure I update when we get to the bottom of it all.

They had a bad run of O2 sensors in 2004, could be a bad batch of TPMS sensors. If a shipment was overheated (dark container on the top of the stack on the boat) it could have damaged the batteries.

I have one sensor on my '16 Corolla that intermittently drops to ~10psi. Temperature reading is steady, if a bit low, but consistent. I had two times that the TPMS light came on, pulled over and found no anomalies. A month or two later I swapped out my Entune for a Pioneer with a Maestro and that told me the story.
Going to be needing tires in the next 10,000 or so, so I'll replace that sensor when I do those.

It works for the most part, but I can't use the TPMS "Alert" feature of the Pioneer because when the sensor drops, it triggers the alert and the screen jumps from the map or radio to the TPMS/CEL screen.

I'm having a similar issue in my '13 RAV4 XLE AWD. Low pressure light was coming on intermittently, I figured I just needed to add some air (now that it's winter). Finally got around to doing so this morning; tires were around 29 or 30 PSI, and I inflated them all to 33.

After inflating though one of the tires was leaking through the stem! I screwed the cap on tightly (stopped the leak temporarily) and drove it to the nearest tire / automotive place. They told me that some part was broken inside the stem and they would have to replace the entire stem and pressure thing (about $100 - I'm assuming it's this part). Well they did that, and the tire is no longer leaking, but he can't get the pressure reading to "link up" to the computer and the dash light is perpetually on.

Anyone have any ideas? Will this just fix itself after driving for a while? Is there a TPMS reset button somewhere?
Thanks

Dang.. I was hoping that was just for newer models. I think the guys at the shop didn't have TechStream... he was using something else. So long story short I HAVE to use TechStream? Do you think the dealer would charge me just to register a new sensor? Could I do this myself somehow (for free)?

#13 ·
There are other tools that may work like the https://www.amazon.com/ATEQ-QuickSet-TPMS-Reset-Tool/dp/B008SCWXN4 , if you go to the dealer the cost will be anywhere from free to $100 or so, they just charge flat rate time, my dealer has not charged me when making customization changes if done in conjunction with a regular service, but each dealer is different. You need the serial number on the new sensor, it has to be recorded prior to installation AFAIK, can't be seen once inside the wheel, hopefully the installer did that for you.

Tell the tire shop that you NEED the Sensor ID number. They put it in so they should have to unmount the tire to get it for you. Once you have the ID number you can register it with techstream when you get it . Just make sure you write down ALL the sensor ID numbers Before you register the new sensor.

You can other things with techstream also like adding another key. Search Techstream here to find many threads on what it can do.

Good Luck. Let us know how you make out.

The driver has to be installed different on a 64 bit machine. I got it going on windows 10 64bit.

You can download v12 here. It also has a file key to register.

Free Download and install Toyota Techstream 12.20.024 on Windows 7 | OBDII365.com Official Blog

instructions for 64bit
https://obd2016.wordpress.com/2017/0...s-7-pro-64bit/

mcvi 64 reg download if you dont already have it. You can add it to the first download folder.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mztf3wrqa...i5qy1xpoa?dl=0

you have to do the first 2 steps from text in first download then use instructions from 2 download (obd2016 wordpress) to install mvci driver

PS . Some people have had better luck with an earlier version of techstream Like V10 instead of V12

Ditto.

I could not get it to run on my old XP machine.
I bought a 64bit Win 7 machine for Waze editing in the field, and Techstream worked fine.
A few months later, the machine upgraded to Windows 10 and it continued to run just fine.

When I open up Techstream, it asks my location, then I'm brought to the following screen (attached). Do I just enter some random information?
EDIT: I just put one character in each box and the program opened.

Also I didn't need to update any drivers. When I plugged the Mini-VCI cable in the driver seemed to install correctly. No yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager. Now I have a "Vehicle Interface Module" in my list of devices. Do I specifically need to change this to the XHorse driver? Windows seems to think the DENSO driver is more appropriate.

This is my settings on that page

Dealer name 111
Dealer code 111
Dealer phone 111

Dealer county UNITED STATES

user type US DEALER 1

The rest are blank .. Hit OK BUTTON

You will know if the driver is installed when to plug the cable into the car and click on "connect to vehicle " if it wont connect then the driver is not installed correct.

I promised an update and here it is. I was able to successfully install Techstream (ver. 12.20.024) on my Windows 10 64 bit laptop. It recognizes my cable and communicates with the vehicle. I could view all the ECUs, change various settings, etc. Kudos to 2011rav4 for the help.

However, when I tried to update the TPMS settings (following the video instructions), I got the error "ID Registration failed due to a communication error with the ECU while in Initialization mode". Apparently this is a common error. I found a TSB which shows you how to connect TC and GC (I just used a paper clip), which I did and still got the same error. I found a forum post which suggested this could be due to the firmware version of the VCI cable (mine was 1.4.1). I purchased another cable from eBay with 2.0.4 firmware and the error persisted. I again tried shorting TC and GC for 30+ seconds and I still got the error.

In short, it looks like I'm able to do everything a dealer can do with Techstream EXCEPT change the darn TPMS settings, which was the reason I took on this project in the first place :/

Now I'm out over $30 and wondering if I should have just purchased the real-deal cable to begin with:
Original Xhorse MVCI 3 IN 1Toyota Newest Version V10.30.029

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting past this "ID Registration" error?
Thanks

In other news, is anyone interested in purchasing a like-new VCI cable? :)

Did you try another version of techstream? Maybe v10 and see if you have the same problem? Might be just a clitch in the software.

I considered that. But the software works otherwise, so before I go changing things I wanted to hear if anyone else had gotten around this problem somehow. @2011RAV4 were you able to register TPMS sensors via your Techstream?

A post here suggests I try running a complete ECU health check first.

This is the forum that reported a newer VCI firmware version may correct the problem.

Finally, this is the thread where others have reported no luck no matter what they do.

I'll try the ECU check tomorrow. Last thing to try will be a different TS version. Judging by all the evidence on the internet I'm betting I'm SOL. Was hoping someone had a work-around.

Yes, I registered My TPMS sensors when I had to replace one. No problem. I used the video that I posted, I did have to drive it for a few miles after to get the light to go out.

Where you able to see all the sensor information in Techstream?

I always do the healthcheck when I start it up. No reason why just something I always do.

I can't guarantee that's whats causing the error you are getting in techstream. Im just passing on what I read. I used An oem Sensor (denso makes them) that I got on ebay for 28.00(couple of years ago). If you get it from toyota its like 80 or more. You can find you denso sensor number here

Find My Part

If you had the original sensor that was in your car then you might be able to get a DENSO TMPS SERVICE KIT that fits your sensor.

The original should already registered to your car so that should solve your problem.( I really doubt that they still have your old one).

I would suggest you try Disconnecting the battery for a couple of min . You know sometimes computers just need to restart to fix unknown problems.

Or Installing an earlier version to see if that gets rid of the error.

A couple of people here have has parts of V12 techstream missing after instal. like the Healthcheck button not working and someone else had a problem when they where tying to add a new key. In both cases when they tried and earlier version the problem went away. I don't remember anyone with the error you have.

I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Well my issue is the same but different. My 15 XLE rav4 got C2177 “initialization incomplete” and TPMS light is ON. This is the ONLY active code. On Techstream I see all sensors IDs and pressures with temps. On some reason in ECU it’s 5 sensor IDs and I got donut spare with what looks like rubber stem. Hmmm...here. This is all after I put original tires back after driving on snows. I also did reset tpms with button ZILLION times. What to do? Anybody with same issues?

#45 ·
It sounds like it was programmed for 5 sensors and you only have 4. Use Techstream to delete that 5th ghost sensor and you should be good.

#47 ·
I don't know--I've never done it. As far as I know, the 4.4 models NEVER had a TPMS sensor on the donut spare, so there should only be 4 sensors. But I could be wrong.

Update
Dear brother and sisters, my TPMS light is finally OFF. I just want to share my fix. I tried to re-register new 4 IDs but ECU won’t take it on some reason. So, if you have 5 Tire IDs just ERASE the codes! As soon as I erase codes it everything fine and I drove the car for couple of days at different speeds.
My guess that back on this winter I was driving on 4 snows whole winter without register their IDs and ECU pick extra one somehow. Anyway 2015 RAV4 suppose to have only 4 registered at a time. Thanks!
PS. If I would know I would put 4 clonable/programmable tpms in my snows and would have NEVER deal with registering every season!

I did some more digging and might have stumbled on a technical reason for why these knock-off cables aren't working.
According to the post here, "Absence of (L) line connection means no support for ECU re-flashing". About halfway down there's a screenshot for the cable check utility (also attached).
Image

Well I'm looking at my cable right now and I only see four little wires coming out of the silver cable portion and going to the PCB board - red, green, white and black. That would agree with the poster's cable check results, showing four live pins for +B, K, GND and GND (pins # 16, 7, 4 and 5, respectively). Absence of an active pin # 15 (the (L) line connection), presumably, then prevents us from flashing the TPMS ECU because there's no way for the computer to transfer the information to the vehicle.

Maybe those that have had success registering TPMS IDs with a knock-off cable happened to find one with an active pin 15?

I'm having the same issue ive replaced all 4 sensors and the tpms ecu still doesnt work did you resolve the issue?
