My vehicle came with two duplicate keys, to get a third would cost $225. The dealer suggested a Valet key at $150 so I might go with that option.
I have searched several threads here but am still can't find what others have done. I will add that $150 for a Valet Key sounds overpriced to me.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks to all, this is what Toyota said........

$150 for the valet key is not overpriced, unfortunately. The valet key will not have the buttons to lock and unlock.

I presume you bought your RAV4 used.

I just got a 2012 Sport V6 and it came with 2 keys + valet key.
Wasn't even sure what to expect until I picked up since it was never discussed during negotiations.

frosty, your dealer's trying to dry hump you. $150 for a key. if they don't give you the valet key you should already have, go to a locksmith and have them cut you a key. got to be cheaper than the dealer crap!

YMMV

My Base 2011 came with a valet key, also mentioned in the Owner's Manual as Carbon noted. It would be hard to believe that Toyota has gotten so cheap as to not include that key for all 2012 RAVs.

Page 24 of my 2009 Owner's Manual says

Doesn't your Owner's Manual have that same info? If so, you should have gotten three keys.
Yes it does, my manual says 3 keys plus a Key Number Plate are provided, I will call mthe dealer today and ask again. If he says the same thing as before I'll contact Toyota directly. THANKS !!!!!!:wall

If you have the smart key system the vehicle comes with two fobs, each with a removable physical key. The idea is to lock the glove box and take the key with you, leaving the remote with the valet.

If you don't have the smart key system then, yes, you should have two masters and a valet.

I bought it used and got 2 remote keys plus valet key.

Alternatively, you can buy cheap key off ebay with the chip inside and find somebody to program it for you.

I don't know how difficult this is, but it is definitely possible.

Funny thing I only figured out later - the storage bin under the rear doesn't lock! so your valet key only locks the (lower) glove box!

Correction! The only thing your valet key DOESN'T unlock is the lower glove box.
