Hey, first post and an important question. So yesterday I managed to blow the fuse on all three cigarette lighter ports in my '06 Rav4. The one under the dash, the one in the glove box, and the one in the trunk.

So I did some research, found the blown fuse under the steering wheel, and replaced it. However, now only 1 out of the 3 cigarette lighters are working. I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts, and they told me there are probably 2 more blown fuses for the 2 other cigarette lighter ports, but I have no idea where to find them.

Are there more than 1 cigarette lighter fuses? If so are they all located under the steering wheel? And if not, why after replacing the fuse is only one working?

Any help would be great, thanks!

Three strikes, you're out! Whatever you plugged in - DON'T.
I don't have my car or my manual with me at the moment but I think there are at least two separate fuses.

Yeah I know, big mistake. I was trying to get a water kettle to work on an outlet I purchased online, bad decision. Do you know if the second fuse is in the hood or driver side fuse box?

There are three outlets in the car. I believe the one inside the arm rest box and the cargo outlet is connected to one circuit (fuse#11). The other one near the HVAC is another circuit (fuse#8). That is why you only blew one fuse. Both fuse should be below the steering wheel fuse box.

The outlet you plugged the kettle into I would check the wiring to see if it disconnected or melted. The reason the fuse that was replaced kept blowing is that there is a short in the wiring. There is a good chance the power wire is touching metal.

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I went back into my car and found a blown fuse listed under "Power Outlet", replaced that, and now all three outlets are working! The weird thing is my outlet diagram doesn't match any of the ones online or in my manual, but I still got it working

I am not sure how you can blow two fuses since one of them is on a different circuit. The other possibility is that you plugged your kettle in the other circuit unrelated to the first one.

That's easy. He just kept plugging it in wherever he could until he blew every possible fuse and struck out.
Since his kettle is a heating device that likely takes a lot of power what he'll need to do is add a high current outlet fused and connected directly to the battery.

At least the 110V outlet has a max amp warning. OP - remember that your pot works by electrical resistance and that usually travels backward through the cord to the fuses. (Does your RAV4 have an AC current plug?)

I know this is an older thread but my mechanic checked mine out after my gravy deal on a fuse set on amazon...anyway, I didn't need fuses replaced at all. There's some lil wire/cord in the trunk that was unplugged so it only needed to be plugged back in...sooo since i've upgraded to one of those usb ports for the lighter part and it works no problems, shorts nothing and I've still yet to even crack the seal on the new fuses container. Hope this helps somebody.

Could you tell me where the unplugged wire/cord was? I just inherited a 2011 Rav4 with one (so far as I can tell) non-working cigarette lighter and have yet to check the fuses, but just in case, I would like to know what else I can check.

That situation may not apply to you. He is talking about the outlet at the cargo area where there is an access panel. Probably a wire from the outlet was spliced to a trailer light wire that came loose or disconnected. Just check all the fuses for the outlets.
