what is a ground strap used for ? Better grounding?
Can it be used without a grounding kit?
My car is not modded (just minor extra electronic accessories). is it worth getting this?

vanib I know I sure could tell a difference on my 97,no you do not have a extra 20 HP but mine seems more responsive at lower rpm. It just seems crisper.
I did not tell my dad and when we went somewhere he said "did you put new plug, wires on or something?"
Ypu can spend a whole lot of money on fancy, pretty kits but I just gpt good battery clamps, connectors and used my own wire.
You do not need huge wire.
Clean connections good and go to the body, firewall is where I went and find a good place on the motor.
This way it is cheap.
Some people run extras to starter, alt and transaxle but they have huge stereos.

Start your engine, and turn on the lights. I would use your digital voltmeter and measure the voltage between the chassis and the engine block. Measure the voltage between the negative terminal of the battery and the chassis. Measure the voltage between the negative terminal of the battery and the engine block. It should be only a few millivolts, but I am not sure how I would define "few".

If you had a peak reading meter or an oscilloscope, you could measure the voltages while cranking. An ordinary meter might not pick up the short time before the engine starts. The voltages should all stay under a volt, and probably under half of a volt.

The voltage differences you measure would guide where you need better grounding.

That "Voltage Stabilizer" = snake oil?
I'm sorry Blogson, but this time, I don't think so. I've been using it and I'VE NEVER had any electrical problems, seriously. It has made my electrical system bullet prof and I'm speaking, not from what I've heard. I'm speaking for personal experience. I was also skeptical at first. Until I installed it nine years ago. I installed it with the ground kit...period.

In the 1,5 years i owned a RAV4 i never had any electrical issues either.
It's not a good argument whatsoever, but hey...

Anyone considering it should type the name/make of the gizmo into Google and read the reviews by users - they're quite enlightening - it may save you money.
It makes you think, if it was a necessary bit of kit the manufacturers would fit it as standard but then the same might apply to extra earth straps too.. I'm not saying it's a good idea or bad - just pointing you to read others observations. I remain completely neutral.

What difference do you see between
1. Grounding wires only
2. Grounding wires + Voltage stabilizer?

Thanks

I've had my RAV4 since the summer of '96. 16 years, and I installed it when at the nine year mark, 2004. No problems at all. That is reliability, I just helped my RAV4.

If you did the Ground wires, you already know how it helps your electrical and more torque for your RAV4. with the Voltage Stabulizer, and this:
• Increases Torque at Low and Middle Speeds
• Stabilizes Idling and Improves Engine Kick-Over
• Improves Engine Response
• Increases Headlight Brightness
• Improved Fuel Economy
• Improved Battery Life
• Improves Audio Quality

I know, sometimes when you read, it sounds like Snake oil. But it does just that. Remember, I also have the Nology wires, which are also grounded. It's not barging guys, but it taken me many years to get all this stuff together. It all has come together and its working fine. We all know that the reliability of the RAV4, or all Toyota in general is unquestionable.

Right now, I won't sell my RAV4 4 less then 10K. You might say: "Hay man, no one is going to give you that money anyway". OK, just the next time you see it, try to chase it down with a same vehicle of its class, any year. ;)

The bottom line here guys is: Why not make an investment and try it out. Then make your comments here. Simple as that. Then you guys can make comments with some experience and not what you might have bench raced, read, or heard.
