Do you have TECHSTREAM? I beleive that will tell you if you completed the drive cycle. Every Toyota owner should have TECHSTREAM. Best $20 you will spend.

Adventures in Oxygen sensor continued...

Had the chance to drive the car out of town for a trip to the big city and put about 150 miles on it. Everything ran fine no problems with cruise control worked as intended.

Then it happened...revenge of the check engine lights.

Visited two different auto parts stores to check what the problem was and our good old friend error code P0136 is back.

Not sure what's going on and super frustrated thati'm still getting the problem code.

Could by chance there be any reason the previous check engine code could be lingering from before the fix and I need to clear it?

I would assume that since the engine light turned off for a full day and a half and now it's back one seems strange.

Then it's time to change the. A/F sensor. It has happened to some people B1 S2 code turns out to really be B1 S1. I believe you said you already bought it. Let us know how you make out. I would also suggest you get Techstream so you can find out what the sensors are doing. Techstream will also let you read any codes you may have

Yes I bought the A/F sensor as well so I’ll try and swap that one out.

Side note I saw your post about Techstream. Is the system easy to use?

Yes Techstream is easy to use. It's a cracked lite copy of what the TOYOTA dealers use. You can't do everything the TOYOTA copy does but You can still do a lot. You install it on your laptop (windows) . if you have an old laptop you can use that.

Here's a thread about adding a key with it. Many good threads here on it. Also lots of good videos on YouTube.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask

Install Techstream on windows 10

The continued adventures in oxygen sensors

Got the chance to pull out the Oxygen/Fuel upstream sensor and replace it

First pull off the heat shield. There are 4 bolts 2 on top and two on the bottom sides.

Once it's removed you'll see the sesnor on the right hand side of the pipes. Remove the sensor and take it out. (I found this sensor to be way easier than the downstream as it wasn't exposed to the elemants as much.)

Next disconnect the sensor cable on the right hand side of the engine.

I had a hard time getting the clip to release so I removed the battery and took off the bracket that was holding the clip. Made the removal of the cable easier and also helped to make sure it was snuggly connected back after the install of the new sensor.

Here's a comparision of the old sensor and the new one.

Placed some anti-seize paste on the threads of the new sensor and installed it.

Replaced the heat shield and finished the job.

No check engine light or anythign else right now. I'm assuming I need to drive it for a few days to get a drive cycle done on it.

I'll report back in a few days and let you know the status.

Late Update:

Got some good news. My car passed emissions.

147548

After everything, I'm not sure if it was one sensor or both since I replaced both. Since then the check engine line has turned off and everything seems to be operating as it should.

I hope my guide will help some other folks in the future who run into this also.

Big thanks to everyone here on the forum who replied and offered suggestions to help me with this job and save some money if I’d taken it to a mechanic.

An alternative to resurrecting a 5-yr.-old Thread is to open a new one w/ as many specifics in Title Header as possible. Might draw more replies.
