Is it possible to install OEM roof rails on the 2022 Rav4 LE?

Most here would tell you they don't want them because they leek water - there is a huge long thread here - 2019 ROOF RACK LEAK

While anything is technically possible - the factory rack is held in place with clips and riv nuts that are mounted to holes in your roof - so practically its not feasible. Not saying you couldn't drill holes in the roof and install, but I doubt most would want to.

Not sure if there is an aftermarket option yet - try Thule or Yakima?

What Rav4 comes w/o roof rails? Don't they all come with rails?
Some may not come with x-bars.

There are four metal brackets that are bolted to roof channel using nuts under headliner. For low rails, the rail and x-bar are bolted to this bracket top side, the rail also uses plastic stab-lok clips and some sticky tape up front. The high rails are different, the rails themselves are bolted to the roof using similar brackets, the the rail & brackets are one "piece". Installing either on a Rav that has no rails at all (and no holes) means drilling holes and dropping headliner, of which the holes would need to be in perfect location.

But what Rav comes with nothing?

I went to Rack & Road in Sacramento, a CA based company, and had them install Thule rails for $550. For some reason Toyota decided to not install the brackets for mounting crossbars on the 2022 base model. I was furious when I drove my car home and couldn’t find the brackets along the black strips on the roof. I went to a dismantler and the wanted $250. Toyota wanted $700 for new ones. Installing the rails myself was out of the question. You have to remove the headliner which looks challenging if you have never done it before.

I should have bought a Subaru. You would think that an S.U.V. with AWD you would be able to simply attach crossbars SO YOU CAN CARRY YOUR GEAR!!! So pissed off!!!

I took my 2022 LE to Rack and Road ( a west coast company) in Sacramento and they installed Thule rails so that I could attach my crossbars from my previous car. It cost me $550. It was cheaper than buying the rails from Toyota ($720). It is so sad that Toyota didn’t put rails on the car. It is an SUV with AWD. So disappointed with Toyota. I might go back to a Forester.
