I just got home from the dealer with my car. The receipt says:

EL2303 updated radio software per TSB0041-23

I can't find any information on that.
This TSB is the same for various 2023 Toyota models (including Prius, Corolla GR, Venza and all RAV 4 models) and is basically this:

"Some 2023 model year vehicles with multimedia version older than 1586 may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
  • Head unit rebooting (does not affect backup camera).
  • Head unit does not boot up (does not affect backup camera).
  • Display screen flickers (does not affect backup camera).

A software update is now available to address these conditions. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to update the software"

I bought a 2023 RAV4 in November of 2022 and last week the multimedia screen stopped working. I was driving and the screen rebooted 3 times in 5 minutes and then the by the 4th time it turned off I was unable to turn it on. When the car is on reverse the monitor shows the backup camera and as soon as I put it in drive the screen goes black. At the same time the USB outlet doesn’t charge the phone as well. I sent the car to the dealership today and they did a reset and the screen started working, the dealer said that there is no guarantee the fix will last as a lot of people are reporting the same issue for this model and Toyota is working on a permanent software update. I started driving and the same happened, the screens rebooted 3 times and the 4th time it turned off, it didn’t turn on again. Is someone else having the same issues? Any updates from Toyota on when will they have a permanent software update for this issue? My dealer didn’t have an answer on this and they said it could take weeks to a year until Toyota comes with a software update. It is annoying driving a brand new car and the screen to not work, meaning no GPS, radio etc.
We also bought our RAV4 in November 2022 and having the same issues. I took it into the dealership and they said I pretty much had to wait for an update. It is so aggravating when you are trying to use maps and have no idea where you are and it goes black! I feel we paid way to much to have this happen months later.

I wonder if this is related to just the 8-inch unit, or if it includes the 10.5-inch also?

The 10.5 inch is Denso-Ten, I believe mine is version 1452.

I have a 2021 RAV4 prime. XSE. JBL. I've obviously had this for years now with no issue but, now I'm having this issue. I have to take to dealership today. I'm posting to say that it is not related to any specific screen size or package. I had a top package and having the issue. I will post again once I get information from the service department this weekend.

My 2023 Rav le hybrid same problem 3 weeks after I bought it. My dealership wasted 3 hours of my time and still have the issue
I have same issue. Went to a dealer today , they said they reset computer screen . Waste of time ! Didn’t work! Now have to go back and they said they would hook up and communicate with Toyota . Brand new 4,200 miles . Anyone know of any solutions ?

Did they look up and install the latest software on the radio? Home | Toyota Software

Edit: You can do that yourself.

They said software was ok. But now I have to go back and they will hook up to Toyota diagnostics and connect for answers . They said they couldn’t do it the first visit . Health check said many lost connections, and missing message codes. They cleared DCT and reset radio.. I’m not sure what that meant .

Yes I am having the same problem. It just keeps turning on and off but back up screen still works. The first time it happened was 2 weeks after getting it. Now 9 months I'm Waiting for a new radio to come in at the moment. Not happy, very disappointed in Toyota!
Same thing happened to me. Finally got a new screen last week but now can't get connected services/navigation. No one can figure it out. I paid for a limited and want everything I paid for!

We traded in our RAV4 Limited for a 2023 Venza Limited July 2nd and we've been having the same problem since day one with the JBL 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system. More here:

And here:

It's been back to the dealer multiple times. It's going back in next week. So far the Toyota dealer won't replace the unit, claiming that the replacement "might" have the same issue. They're insisting that it will take a firmware (not software) update to fix it but have no ETA on a firmware update. Opened a case with Toyota's Brand Engagement Center, but still no resolution. Very disappointed.

Follow up to my earlier post... bad news, or possibly good news, depending on what happens next. The infotainment system in our 2023 Venza Limited died.

I had the infotainment system on last night to check a few settings to ensure that it was still configured correctly before we take it back to the dealer Monday. As I was working through some menus the screen suddenly started acting strange - images blurred and pixilated - then it went black and it never rebooted. I tried pressing the power button, but there was no response. I checked it again this morning, started it up and it never booted up. I drove it around town and the screen is still black.

Thankfully the backup, side and forward-facing cameras are still working as expected, but otherwise the unit appears to be dead.

I updated our case with Toyota's Brand Engagement Center including photos and a new video.

So when we hand it over to the dealer I can't be sure what they'll do, but I feel like if it's dead they finally need to replace it. So we'll see.

I just purchased a brand new 2023 RAV4 LE and driven about 150 mi so far. I am having random ghost calls from my car to my cell phone which is plugged in. My music shuts off and I cannot get it back on until the call is hung up but I can't do that because I can't figure out where to hang it up from. On top of that, I keep getting a pop-up asking for a password saying my subscription is about to expire or something like that. The lag is insane when I'm trying to click features in the multimedia and it delays. I am also so pissed. I made an appointment at the dealership in a couple days. I demanded a free rental car while they fix it and they're trying to charge me. I said you sold me a lemon and they're giving me a car to use, however I believe this issue is not going away anytime soon. Has anybody else encountered the ghost call? It keeps saying call in progress

Per my earlier post, I received a phone call from the dealer service manager quickly followed by our case rep at Toyota's Brand Engagement Center, both saying that a new head unit had been ordered. They said it'll take 3 to 5 days to arrive and be installed. Phew!

Looking forward to a working infotainment system after four long months. I'll report back with how it's going when we get our Venza back.

2023 Prime SE here. So today, the display went blank. Reversed out of the garage, backup camera comes on as usual. Put it in drive screen goes blank. I could give "hey Toyota" commands and it would tune the radio. Turned the RAV off then restarted. Toyota logo appears on screen then proceeds to next screen where you hit the continue button. I press continue and again screen remains blank. I tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds and the system reboots but again a blank screen. I then turn off the RAV, restart the RAV and put it in reverse and rear view camera displays. Put it in drive and all is well. Anyone else experience this? It seems like the reverse camera gets it stuck in some type of loop.

Ours did exactly the same thing. It worked sporadically but would freeze and reboot constantly. The infotainment system finally died but the backup, front and birds eye view cameras worked normally. Initially the dealer kept claiming they fixed it each time we took it in. They never did. Then they claimed that it would need a firmware update that hadn't been released yet and they had no idea when it would be. Then when the head unit finally died they agreed to replace it under warranty.

It sounds like yours is failing as well. Best of luck and let us know how things go with the dealer. If needed, here's the phone number for Toyota Brand Engagement (the dealer actually told us to call them to see if they could do anything on their end):

‭(800) 331-4331‬

To follow up on my earlier post, our Venza has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now. They have no ETA on the replacement head unit. Now we have two cases open with Toyota Brand Engagement. One for the original issues and a second one with the "Parts Delay" team.

Apparently Denso is the problem. They aren't responding to the dealer and TBE is supposed to call this week to let me know if they've had any success.

I know Toyota doesn't pay Denso full-boat, but cannot believe the replacement head unit retails for over $12K! That's insane IMO.

We have a Highlander loaner which is good. We've crossed the lemon law requirements, but we'd rather just have our brand new Venza back. More here in case anyone's interested:

I bought my 2023 Toyota Rav4 xle Premium, February 8 of this year. Today at 2:45 pm, my multimedia screen started going off, on, off, on, repeatedly. It won't let me power it off, no other buttons...such as settings, phone, source....will work. I was driving around town shopping with the screen doing this the entire time until I got home at 5:30 pm. I have 9,550 miles on my car, so everything is under warranty. I called my dealer and I am taking it in tomorrow morning. We'll see what happens.
