Just ordered a relay for my new windshield which is equipped with wiper deicer.

On some Toyotas the rear window deicer, heater mirrors and windshield de-icer are linked and function when the rear window defrost button is pressed

In my limited 07 V6 LTD (US configuration) the rear window deicer and heated mirrors function when i press this button.

When I add the windshield deicer relay and fuse is there a way link the wiper deicer to this same switch - OR do I need to purchase a separate front window defroster switch ?

Mine has a seperate switch located between the heated seat buttons

Mine has four slots - from left to right

There does not appear to be room for an additional switch. Can you take a photo of your setup?
Here is a picture of my 2008 Canadian Limited.

The De-Icer circuit is powered from it's own fuse, and the switch also acts as a timer. For these reasons I would not combine it's operation with the rear window and mirror defoggers. I expect that if your RAV already had the wiring in place for the heated windshield, then the wiring behind the switch panel is also in place. If that is the case ,the convenience of plug & play is well worth an extra few dollars to purchase the correct switch.

Thanks Rickl

DId not see the picture in the thread but found it in your album.

Looks like I either need to combine both seat heaters to function via a single switch (with two buttons) like yours - or run wires to the left part of the dash where I have one unused slot...

Not sure why that was. I was able to see the image immediately after posting, but sometimes in the past there has been a delay before the image was visible.

Until you mentioned it, I thought all RAVS had the seat heaters located in a single button like mine. I had a look at the 2006 electrical diagrams, and they show the L&R switches in the same housing. Since I have a 2008 and you have a 2007, I have no idea why you would have the 2 separate switches. Perhaps two separate switches appear in all RAVs that don't have the windshield de-icer.

I don't know if the connectors on the rear of your two heater switches would be plug and play for the single heater switch. Unless you can verify that, you may wish to install the de-icer switch on the left side of the steering wheel. It's a little more work, but will cost less.

I have a 2011 with no front de-icer and I have the single combined L+R switch for the seat heaters.

Wish I had that feature. Our last fmaily car was a subi outback with the winter package. It would time out. You could feel the heating elements get hot with your bare fingers. I found that releaseing frozen wipers was only part of the benifts. Driving for long periods of time in slushy snow stroms the wipers would pack snow down at the bottom of the windsheild. The wiper de-icer would help melt this. Still did not help the snow that woudl accumulate at the A piler.

Preventing wipers from being frozen to your windsheild is why you see people with their wipers up in parking lots.

On topic but a different approach.....

We had a "Hotshot" windshield washer fluid heater installed on the '06 which worked really well to keep the windshield and the wiper blades clear of ice. The maker of the unit went out of business as a result of the GM fiasco several years back..... But we found another make on Amazon that works equally well. Both units help to clear oil film and bug build up during warmer months....

My seat heaters have both a low & high option and I want to keep it. As i see it my only option is to run a wire to the left side of the steering wheel.

Based on the electrical diagrams the switch connects to connector type 90980–12551 (8 pin connector). I would like to avoid cutting wires if possible so my plan is to build an extension cable for the connection. However, I was unable to find a connector that matches 90980–12551 from the diagrams. Can anybody give a hint what components to look for?

btw - the deicer switch is quite long (maybe 6cm or so) - i hope that I will be able to fit it to the slot on the left side of the steering wheel. Otherwise I may have to consider relocating the downhill assist switch instead...

I now have a functional retrofitted wiper de-icer system. Very easy to set up.

After the windshield was replaced with a model that had the heating element built into it only two steps were necessary:

a) install deicer relay (type 90987-02027) to Engine room R/B No.2
b) connect deicer switch (type 84794-52020) to connector E28 (behind lower instrument panel switch base)

You are all done.

An optional third step is to run wires to the left side of the steering wheel and install the switch there. I did this as there was no unused slots in the lower instrument panel switch base.

Parts for US car install of front wiper deicer feature

I used factory parts, already installed wire harnesses in my 2012 base RAV4 to get my replacement windshield that came with the heating element to work. Some how the glass company ordered this, instead of the stock one(which did not come with this feature) when they replaced the broken one.
I first had the window tech plug the wiring harness of the window, into the factory plug located just below the left wiper blade.

I then ordered these parts off the net:
switch, FR wiper de icer. 84794-0R010 $49.75
RELAY. 90080-87010. $19.32

Pull out the switch panel in the rav that has the flip capped power outlet, two blanks, and the traction control. Remove the blank closest to the power outlet . Plug in deicer switch and clip into plug that is attached to the wire harness.

Open the hood and the cover of the passenger side fuse box. Insert relay into deicer location as marked on the cover. Make sure 20 amp fuse is in place.

Turn on car, turn on switch.. Feel the warmth!!!! Cost less than 100 dollars and takes 10 min or less to install.

I can hardly wait for the frost or snow in the sierras!!!

Base 2010 here and I do not have the same experience.

In short I the switch goes in the dash, but the relay did not plug in. Whatever is supposed to be on the bottom of the relay isn't there. Looks like I am missing part of the harness. My local dealer (who I only half trust) says I do not have the correct wiring harness According to my VIN I have 82111-0R100 and He "thinks" I need 82111-0R011. I cannot find anything that details the harnesses well enough to be sure at this point. I really hate this I have been wanting to add this option since the vehicle was new, but could not justify ripping out the windshield. I need to replace the windshield and now is/was my chance.

If anyone has the details on the harnesses and could tell me just how much I am missing it would be amazing.

I think it depends on whether your RAV4 was built in Japan or Canada. If the VIN starts with J, it was built in Japan.
