Would the BZ4X have the same plug/configuration? From the outlook, they do look like a builtup on the Rav4, so just wondering. And if they do, then Toyota should be more motivated to come out a fix.

Anyways, i would give it 2 years - if there isn't anything from Toyota by then, i will sell both of my Toyotas and never look back 😡

I have 2022 model with "Fixed" connector. But what I'm going to do before winter - apply silicone dielectric grease to motor connector area and spray metal clamp and braided wire with fluid film. Probably I'll seal area where orange cover connects to metal part - just to prevent salt and water to enter from top.
Just in case...
would you be able to see the cutout part easily after removing the bottle tray only?

It may be worthwhile to bring it to a Toyota dealer and have them pop cover inspect it, take pics and advise if further investigation required. There is a tech bulletin (T-TT-0630-20 ) in circulation but does not address internal braid corrosion. Dealer may charge for inspection but may be worth it for piece of mind.
This is precisely what I am doing. I had an initial inspection documented at my first 5,000 mile service a couple of weeks ago. Everything was good and documented on the Service Order. I have the open sided cover.

My dealer will do this every April after winter as long as I own it. There was no charge for the inspection. My situation may be unique due to my 25yr relationship with them, but they were aware of the issue, but would not comment further.

They have not had one come in yet with a problem, but will inspect on request. I’m just not certain if it’s a no charge for everyone.

I would imagine if you’re bringing it in during a scheduled service maybe no charge vs coming in just to inspect. Lots of variables with dealers and customers relationships with them.

Thanks for sharing. What year is your RAV4?

Can anyone confirm which cover the 21s have-open or closed? I have a 21 XSE built in Kentucky in late August. I tried to get a look at it, but can’t really see it under there.

you have to look at it. Some have the new one some don't. My LE purchased 8/21 fresh off the truck has old style. Georgetown build.

I can't seem to get under the car to get a good look.
The black pan underneath the connector is obstructing my view.
I can see orange, but can't see the whole thing.

Or they're figuring how to deny any possible future warranty coverage due to customer modifications.
If Toyota isn’t covering the repair because of corrosion then what’s there to lose? Maybe your just extending the life of the cable beyond Toyota’s warranty? Or Beyond an extended warranty if they decide to cover it for 8 years?

If/when Toyota has a service campaign to address this issue, they could deny coverage if the component was tampered with.

I get it, people are anxious and want to take care of their cars that cost a lot of money.

If you believe Toyota will never address this, then I guess go ahead and try the experimental fixes.

If you think Toyota is working on a fix or already fixed it, I’d leave it alone.

2022. Took delivery in January. Our 5th RAV, but 1st HV. I had already looked underneath myself as I mentioned in an earlier post. However, I thought it would be a good idea to start a documentation trail early.

Obviously I’m not going to have an issue with just 2.5 months of snow travel on 4 months post delivery.

Still feel this one is the best we have owned. The HV Drivetrain is so smooth. Going to stay positive. 🙂

You can always remove dielectric grease and fluid film from connector and it will looks like normal. If you used something else - it might be a problem.

If Toyota is reading this I would imagine they’re probably recoiling in horror. First of all, the problem itself and the attention it’s getting, and secondly, everyday Joes fiddling with the high voltage wires and applying various substances and solvents to the wires and connector.
Keep trying, still nobody listening. I’ve given up, apparently there is a dielectric grease fetish on this forum.

T-TT-0630-20 is over 14 months ago. They have had all that time to come up with a corporate response. They changed the part on new builds. What do you think the chances are they will offer a warranty extension both redefining the failure as covered and extend the coverage?.

Toyota will make it as painful as they can, and try and deny everything. I have dealt with them at a corporate level on two occasions personally. And regional Toyota on one occasion. From my experience regional is a waste of time.

On a side note, maybe I'm the oddball, I spend more time cleaning the underside of all my vehicles than I do the topside especially in the winter months.
That’s odd. My one experience with them has been fantastic. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t think your specific instances measure up to this situation, especially if it’s going to impact customers on a large scale.

The fact that Toyota changed the part on new builds is akin to an admission that there is a problem with the original part, and that makes it more likely that, if Toyota doesn't offer a remedy on its own, they could be more vulnerable to legal action that would force them to offer a remedy.

And the change doesn’t fix the problem… it just delays the corrosion.. Car care but guy said something is coming but couldn’t/ wouldn’t say what or when..

I will let you decide for yourself. The picture below is of both sides of my first issue that I was dealing with. The Toyota rep was insistent that it was sealer on top of the paint. I will let you decide for yourself it it looks like something on top of the paint, or unpainted. It went all the way to regional and they were going to do nothing and I was told their rep is their eyes and ears in the field. No matter how wrong they are. Regional got the same pictures you are seeing here. The area in question was hidden from the consumer. Nobody knew that it even existed apparently until I pointed it out. The day I was to pick up my car from the body shop the lady from regional called me with a 180 degree change in demeanor and "we will pay for it, just send me a copy of your repair bill showing your VIN". Come to find out all of them made in Japan had the issue and the ones made in Canada did not. I found out later that someone at the dealership that I bought the car from started examining all of the cars in the parking lot and found the differences between Canada and Japan. Regional told me that they were going to send out a notice to all affected customers. I highly doubt they did. It will become a corrosion issue down the road, if it hasn't already.
